Amy's Story

Amy was a bit disconcerted to see that Lisa got her own bio, while she, Amy,
who went all the way to Hong Kong to visit me last year, didn't! The nerve of me! Sorry Amy. Here is your bio whether you like it or not.
Ahem...I first met Amy in New York in the year 1999 when we were both working in the 9th circle of hell, at an institution that shall remain nameless. At the time, she was always going on and on about this guy back in Chicago Tom Ray, a member of the Bottle Rockets. Anyway, it was Tom Ray this, Tom Ray that. His proportions were built up so much in my mind that I began to see him as some kind of mythical figure, a Brad Pitt-like super guy demigod! That's why it was surprising to finally meet him and discover that the mythical figure he resembled most was Santa Clause. But Amy is just a Kansas country girl at heart, and she likes 'em with suspenders and zz top beards and soul. Amy and I bonded over catalog galleys, which we slaved over together into the wee hours of the morning (sometimes getting into sisterly hissy fits), and trips to the printer in Danville, Kentucky, where we'd raid the local Walmart for goodies and clink wine glasses up in our room in the posh Hampton Inn while expensing pay per view movies. Those were the days, weren't they Amy?! I can still smell the sweet Kentucky blue grass. There were many more bonding moments for us, including the most surreal of all, September 11th. We walked home from work together that day, after all the world's planes had been grounded except for the fighter jets patrolling New York's sky, seeing people whose clothes and faces were covered in ashes and the huge column of smoke rising from the end of the island...Like me, Amy is an animal-loving vegetarian. A couple of years ago she took in three unwanted cats with kitty AIDS. We all thought she was crazy to invite such trauma into her life, but she was so dedicated to them. Only one survives to this day, but it eats better than she does. Really, it does, the girl's got heart. Aside from being a very busy creative director, Amy makes jewelry, does yoga, cooks healthy organic meals, socializes with fascinating people, and makes New York still a cool place to be.
