The Peace Corps Fund’s first Third Goal Grant demonstration project was awarded in 2003 to support a team made up of Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV), former Washington Post reporter and novelist, Joanne Omang (Turkey 1964–66), and students at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). partnered in the spring of 2003 to support a cross-cultural outreach program in a Washington, D.C. high school. The goal of the program was to expose students to positive cross-cultural news and stories, and to provide the students with an alternative lens through which to view and understand world events.
